Kevin’s father, Douglas MacArthur Erne, died this morning at approx 315 am at the Spencer Hospital. He was 66 years old.
Kevin and I were visiting him yesterday without the children, and I could tell then, that the time would be coming very soon. It was just something you could feel, something very hard to describe. I think Kevin knew it too, and although it is a very sad and difficult thing to watch, I could see that there would be a comfort and relief that would come in the acceptance of his passing when it actually happened. Now comes the hard part, actually saying goodbye.
Doug will be very missed by everyone who knew him. He was a man who truely loved everyone unconditionally. He was a strong role model to his sons, an extremely devoted husband of nearly 42 years, and a man who’s hand shake was his word. He was a proud grandfather, an old soldier (he’s been retired from the Army for 28 years now) and a devout Lutheran. He was a man whom I have been proud to call “Pop” for the past 16 years, as he always felt like my own father.
We will forever miss his sense of humor, his laughter, his wisdom and his smile.
Susan and Kevin and family,
I am glad I had the opportunity to meet him even if it was for a short amount of time many years ago. He had a wonderful personality that he has passed onto Kevin and his undying Love for his family was evident.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all through this difficult time.
Love,
Your kid sister.
I am so sorry to hear this news, Susan. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
I’m so sorry, friend. I wish I could give you a big hug.
