Since Heather is on lock-down because of some stupid Marines, I thought I’d take the chance to venture out here in Germany and give you a report lol.
Last night, I had a chance to visit with a very nice couple I have met here. “He” is the town electrician, and “she” is a substitute kindergarten teacher…a REAL kindergarten teacher here in Germany
Their daughter is stateside right now just outside the cities in MN as an exchange student and I help them get mail to her a bit faster and cheaper
In return, I get to drill her about stuff like where to get this or that, or too, where the cows went lol (yes I actually asked and she laughed lol) She also brings my girls yummy chocolate and today she brought me some flowers too. She is very sweet.
Last night, she invited me to go to an upcoming Women’s Prayer Night. At first, I didn’t understand what she was asking, then she went to get a brochure to show me…I nearly died, I thought she was proselytizing…what she showed me actually was the English version of the program for the night so that when I go, I could understand it all since it’s all in German
Yes, I accepted the invitation, and today, I went out looking for something other than jeans and sneakers to wear so I don’t scream “American!” when I walk into the church with her. I think I found a couple of things I want to pick up, and luckily there are some good sales right now so I’ll make out ok. It’s the 6th so I have time to buy something….. I just didn’t want to do it today lol
I have found the other REAL store, this one is much, much bigger and after going, I feel like I made a trip to a real stateside Walmart. It was huge! It wasn’t very busy and I got to wander around and touch a bunch of stuff like I like to do, and my eyes were bugging out over the kinds of Easter candy they have too
I also went to a discount clothing store, more of a variety store as they have like a dollar type section too with all kinds of little odds and ends. I saw some kid stuff, and all I could think about was Heather and her theory of how China is trying to kill us all off…..lots of the kids stuff was made in China lol I ended up getting a cool fold and snap box I can store my stamp sets in their cd cases in for cheap and a bathing suit for Maegan that we could have used Monday so she could go to the girl scout swimming party. She’s grown so much she can’t wear last years suit and I had no idea or the chance to wander out to get one so she could go. (instead, we went to BK for lunch on Ramstein and they loved it lol)
In my trip out yesterday, I went to the local grocery, Aldi, in Winnweiler to buy some kinder-eggs for the kids. It’s where I got my purple tulips from the other day and yesterday they had roses, my favorite color peach, for 99 euro cents. Can you say bargain?! Yipee!! My dining room is filling up with flowers lol
I think it hit 54 degrees today, but it was windy windy windy to boot..
Jordan and I had pizza at Anthony’s for lunch…you know, even bad pizza is good pizza when you haven’t had it a while lol.
I checked my mail and it was stuffed FULL of two envelopes full of coupons from my new grown up friend Marla too. I think I must have just missed her as she told me this morning she was going to mail them out and I got there just before noon. It was a “holy shit” moment as I pulled those envelopes out, man they were bustin’ at the seams! lol
We dropped off Kevin’s car at the mechanic of Sembach as it’s driving us nuts lately. The sweetest guy helped us out, he’s the owner of the shop and works on probably 95% of all the cars in the Sembach area, just as his father did when he owned the place. Just a really, really nice man.
So there, I got out, went where the Germans go and bravely accepted an offer to a prayer night at a German church.
I sure hope lightening doesn’t strike when I go lol
I did one load of laundry and my sink has been clean all day. I was dressed early and Jordan didn’t whine about getting dressed either. I made cheese tortellini with bolognese sauce and garlic bread for dinner. Now, it’s time to go watch Survivor, even though I cheated and looked to see who got booted off. Poor Yuo Man…..but you have to admit, what a threat he’d be considering how far he made it last time.
On another tv note, I have hubby hooked on American Idol lol. Gotta love the limited tv we have, and damn do we miss our DVR!
I am jealous… They let you shop at a “local” store
I have yen burning a hole in my pocket!
Yeah, Susan went to my favorite stores (REAL and Aldi)
.
. So, Miss Susan, I read the other day German coffee is your favorite, which brand? My Mama still sends me and hubby, since he drinks more coffee than I do, the Tschibo coffee. Love that stuff and for sure none of the American brands can be compared.
Sorry, just had to say it since I am German
Isn’t it nice to get flowers at Aldi? You pay pennies and you are able to get some every week, where in the states or even here you’ll be broke after buying flowers for the rest of the year
lol. so I am reading this today after I left a box full of coupons for you at the mailroom. I do try and leave you some good ones.
