It is forbidden to use my laundry room on Sundays.
Every Sunday, I’ve been up late, tackling our laundry. Tons of laundry. I hate it. From now on, I will not do laundry on Sunday, nor will anyone else in my house. It is forbidden.
I had to rethink the laundry biz here, and remember that hampers are for dirty clothes and baskets are for transporting dirty clothes to the laundry room, and clean clothes back upstairs. Laundry hampers and baskets are not dressers!
Here’s how I am tackling my laundry:
My husband does his own, every Saturday. He has his own basket in our bedroom and all of his stuff goes in there. That in it’s self has cut down my laundry immensely. This basket serves as both hamper and laundry transporting medium lol
At the top of the landing outside the bedrooms there are 3 hampers. (we have a huge landing). Whites, lights, darks. Whichever hamper is the fullest each morning is the hamper that gets done. The kids and I use these hampers, and they know that if it’s NOT in a hamper, it will not get washed.
Towels get done on Tuesdays. I have a basket/hamper in the bathroom for just this purpose. They use them more than once and they are hung in the bathroom to dry after each use.
My sheets are being done (master bedroom sheets) bi-weekly on Mondays, and the kids on a rotating schedule on Saturdays.
I always said I didn’t want to be doing laundry every day, but it sure as hell beats spending all day on Sunday doing it.
It’s been great to NOT see an overflowing hamper of dirty clothes or have the kids rummaging through the baskets of clean stuff each morning for stuff to wear!
Look at you!!!
How exciting- I hate laundry as well.
You are getting so organized! Send some of that my way. At least you are giving me a little kick in the butt to get mine done. There is not much motivation here. Maybe the kids can stay at your house for awhile and I can get some stuff done. That way they can mess your house and not mine!
Thanks for the motivation. I have now developed a simple plan for me. I have the same issue of living out of baskets. I hate it. Everything gets wrinkled and you can’t find what you need. My other issue is that when I do sit down to fold I separate them all back into baskets, folded of course, and they sit there again, but this time in our rooms. No more!!!!
Now instead of folding in the living room as I used to, I now take the clean laundry from the basement into the kids room. There I do a quick sort while putting the kids clothes away. When those are done, I throw the clothes back in the basket and go into our room. Then the bathroom and then the kitchen. Done in just a few minutes. And no more folding the clothes that get hung up anyway!
***Awesome Mandy! Who would have thought it would be so easy to finally tackle it?**********
