For me, it would have to be a dryer.
Seems like we always get a load behind on laundry day. Dryers take too long, their cycle is much longer than the washing machine. Now me, when I do laundry (and I do mean WHEN because my husband does the bulk of it) I am always compulsed to putting another load in the washer AS SOON AS it stops, and put those wet clothes into a hamper to wait for the dryer.
And I hate laundry. I hate socks. I really, really hate socks. And for some reason, I have a washing machine that doesn’t like to eat socks like other people do. I guess I don’t mind towels very much since they are soft and smell nice when they come out of the dryer…but socks? I’m soooo glad the weather is getting nicer, then we can wear less of them. We are 6 people. For you that are not so good at math, that’s 42 pair of socks in a weeks time. Plus, you have to figure the sock changes from:
1. stepping in cat puke
2. being stuck to a popcicle sticky spot in the kitchen
3. going into the bathroom only to discover (with your feet) that the kids have overflowed the toilet or sink….again.
4. kids going in the yard or garage with no shoes
5. this crappy carpet (i’ve never seen dirtier new carpet..ever…. and I vac ALOT..it’s not us, there’s just crap IN the carpet)
6. feet that get wet because childrens feet are drawn magically to mudpuddles
7. one pair for uniforms, one for lounging (thanks hunny)
8. Track practice…in the rain
9. Because your shoes make your feet stink
10. Because the kids just like to take off their socks for no reason, only to get another pair to put on to put their shoes on.
That’s at the least 84 individual socks that need to be washed, dried, sorted/matched, and put away EVERY STINKING WEEK!!!
I think I’ll buy everyone some flipflops…..
Thanks for telling me how many socks you wash. Now knowing I wash more than that makes me ill.
the fact that the two of you actually figured out how many socks you wash is scary!!
Guess I need a few more kids.
No…sick, would be finding out out how many loads of laundry that is a year and then how much it costs to run those loads where we live, and then if we had to pay for the water if we didn’t. Flipflops all the way!
LOL Since I’m not THAT good at math, I’ll leave that one up to YOU to figure out! HA!!
I have a minute….
Let’s see, I’d say that’s about 24 pairs in a load, so 2 loads a week. Times 52 weeks a year, that’s 104 loads a year!
(My detergent is 32 loads a bottle, so that would hike you up to 3 1/2 bottles!)
Who knows how many gallons of water and what that would cost…
